Risks of Face Paint

In this Halloween and for the upcoming Christmas Season and there’s in need to join like parties, people tend to face paint to be more effective. According to the Campaign of Safe Cosmetics having a face paint could be risky for some people. Studies shows, they were able to to try 10 10 face paint products that usually seen in internet or in craft stores and all 10 face paint products tested contains lead and 6 out of 10 had known skin allergens, including nickel,cobalt or chromium, at levels above recommendations of industry studies. Base on some reports they looked for a range of heavy metals and they didn’t find mercury or arsenic. They did unfortunately find lead in all products.

The expose of the lead will result to developmental and behavioral problems and some have labeling problems which says they are hypoallergenic but its not. The lead they get from those face paints has a 0.054 parts per million up to 0.65 parts per million. 4 out of 10 products tested has nickel from 2.1 up to 5.9 parts per million, 2 out of 10 has cobalt that has a level of 4.8 up to 5.5 parts per million. 5 out of 10 has chromium from 1.6 up to 126 parts per million. As experts say it should not exceed to 1 part per million.

Even if using it once a year it is still not safe and concerned parents should skip it from their children. If those face paint applied not carefully enough and get the face paint too close to the eyes and nose that could be potentially harmful. So be selective on some face paints for protective reasons.
